| During last week's Gavin.. I observed all sorts of interesting things that left me quoting the great Harlem philosopher Black Rob... Here are some things to make you say 'Whoa!'

I ran into Bay Area Hip Hop legend Too Short at the Beanie Sigel party on SF's Treasure Island the other night. Short who has put out more full length albums [13] then any other Hip Hop artist in history, noted that he is relocating from Atlanta back to the Bay Area. The problem he's been having is locking down a decent place to set up shop. It appears that Too Short is experiencing first hand, the Bay Area's housing shortage and outrageous housing costs.. [average home is 300 thousand dollars]. When a baller like Too Short is having sticker shock, then you know its all bad..All we can say is Whoa!Folks here in the Bay Area have been buzzing about a head noddin' song from Wyclef Jean that disses the hell out of Canibus. Apparently it's in response to some of the disses that Canibus has been dishing out. The Wyclef song is incredible. Out of all the barbs traded between LL, Canibus and Wyclef, this joint is by far the best of the bunch. One listen and you'll be forced to say 'Whoa', Canibus got knocked the hell out!. Up and coming rapper, LP who hails from the Boogie Down Bronx has been creating quite a buzz with his song the 'Truth'. Here he disses everyone from E-40 to Ice Cube to Mack 10 to Coolio to DMX, Foxy Brown, Capone & Noreaga and Cam'ron to name a few. He swung through the KPFA's FNV radio show the other night and claimed that he was speaking what was on his mind and that he's a battle emcee. Fair enough! What made me say 'Whoa' was when he wouldn't allow his picture to be taken...He came through and closed the curtains preventing the film crew from picking up his image. Veteran producer and label head King Shameek explained that LP didn't want to be filmed because he will be wearing a mask when he performs his dis song. Wear a mask while dissing others? Now that's a double 'Whoa'!
Rakim and MC Lyte never showed up for a Hip Hop show at SF's Justice League that was sponsored by our good friends over at http://www.Hip-Hop.com. Apparently 'The R' had and adverse reaction to flying and hence was enroute to Cali by train. Somewhere between NY and Cali he disappeared. Did he and MC Lyte hook up and run off into the sunset? Was there some sort of misunderstanding between Rakim and Hip Hop.com? Or did the R have second thoughts about traveling 3000 miles to an intimate venue like the Justice League where it would be hard to get away with lipsynching. Last time The R came to the Bay he lipsynched throughout most of his concert. His absence this past Sunday night had more then a few saying 'Whoa'! Props to Jeru and the Nots Click for holding it down. |
